Upgrading RomVault

RomVault has a built in updater. When a new official release is available, you will be notified during application launch. The instructions below explain how to manually upgrade, for example to WIP (Work-in-Progress) builds shared on Discord.

Create backups

Make sure RomVault is closed and there is no process running
Copy the following items to another location:
- DatRoot folder
- RomVault EXE file
- RomVault config XML file
- Cache file

Replace old files with new files

Download the newest version from www.romvault.com
Extract the downloaded archive
Copy the new RomVault exe and replace the old one

Force DAT update

Start RomVault
Hold the SHIFT key and then RIGHT CLICK the “Update DATs” button. Alternately, use the keyboard shortcut SHIFT+F5 or use the header menu Update DATs > Refresh all DATs.

The “Force DAT update” step is highly recommended in case there are changes with how DATs are processed between versions. This forced update ensures that all character encoding and directory settings are re-processed uniformly.
